Let me share a fascinating story of this US election.
There were 180 000 jobs in coal mining industry when Ronald Reagen was US President. Now there are less than 55000 jobs in coal. The Clintons and Obamas have destroyed your livelihood.
That's a very powerful narrative if you are appealing to people who have lost jobs in Coal based industry. There are many important states like W Virginia, Wyoming where Trump is finding many takers of this narrative.
One clear difference between Trump and Hillary Clinton: Climate Change.
Here's Donald Trump View:
The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive.

Trump believes that Global warming is a "canard," "hoax" and "total con job," citing cold weather snaps as evidence. He has very effectively in his election speeches promised to the electorate (especially people who have lost jobs in coal mining industry) that he will back fossil fuel generation be it from Crude Oil, Natural Gas or coal.
As per some estimates, Coal industry has lost 50000 jobs in last five year. Most of them now a strong Trump supporter. The story sold to these Coal miners: Obama's Climate change policy responsible for this. Here's the Coal based ETF KOL during 2012-2015
But the big question: Has Coal industry suffered only because of Obama's policies?
The Answer is No.
What has hurt the Coal Industry in last five years is Cheaper Natural Gas, thanks to the rise in Fracking (Disruptive Technology). The biggest consumer of Coal: The Powerplants have moved away from Coal to Natural Gas because Nat Gas is cheaper and cleaner. This trend is not going to reverse. Trump has promised more fracking which means more Nat Gas supply which means even lower Nat Gas prices which means coal becoming completely unviable.
But does the electorate understand all this. The answer is No. Here's a candidate telling to its voters (people who lost jobs in coal mining) on their face: He will increase fracking which means destroying their own jobs and they are clapping 🙂
What is a good message to voters?
This is what Hillary said:
Coal Jobs are not coming back. I have a $30-billion plan for job training, road and bridge projects, broadband expansion which will help you participate in new economy.
It's freezing and snowing in New York--we need global warming!
